General start dates for older adults in South Korea
Use the programme’s birth-year categories and have the clinic confirm your eligibility. Do not calculate programme eligibility from your birthday alone.
- Ages 75 and older, born in 1951 or earlier: flu from October 6, 2026; COVID-19 from October 12, 2026.
- Ages 70–74, born in 1952–1956: both vaccines from October 12, 2026.
- Ages 65–69, born in 1957–1961: both vaccines from October 15, 2026.
The general programme ends on April 30, 2027 for flu and June 30, 2027 for COVID-19. Immunocompromised people and patients or residents of long-term care hospitals and facilities may have separate schedules and conditions. Check with the clinic. Discuss whether to delay an earlier available vaccination to arrange one combined visit.
Check coverage for each vaccine
South Korea’s funded flu programme covers eligible children ages 6 months through 14 years, pregnant people and adults 65 and older. For a child, confirm the programme’s birth-date criteria, the minimum vaccination age of 6 months and the number of doses required by their previous vaccination record.
The COVID-19 programme covers adults 65 and older and qualifying high-risk groups, including immunocompromised people and residents or patients of designated facilities. Eligibility for a funded flu dose does not automatically establish COVID-19 coverage. For eligible high-risk children under 12, a COVID-19 schedule is to be announced separately after vaccine supply is introduced; check the latest notice.
If you are a foreign resident or visitor, ask the clinic which identity, residence and eligibility documents apply to you. An age category alone does not confirm an individual funding entitlement.
Same-day vaccination and separate visits
The vaccines are given at separate injection sites. If they are given on different days, there is no recommended minimum waiting period between a flu vaccine and a COVID-19 vaccine. Intervals required between doses of the same vaccine still apply. Have a clinician review your vaccination history.
Three checks before visiting
- Confirm eligibility and the applicable start date for each vaccine.
- Ask the clinic about vaccine availability and required identification or supporting documents.
- Tell the clinician about current symptoms and any previous severe allergic reaction after vaccination.
Remain at the clinic for observation for 20–30 minutes afterward. Your individual vaccination plan should be confirmed during the clinical assessment.
