Convert a glucose reading between mg/dL and mmol/L. Enter the value and its current unit to see both equivalent units.
Blood Glucose Unit Converter (mg/dL ↔ mmol/L)
Converted result
mg/dL ÷ 18.02 = mmol/L · mmol/L × 18.02 = mg/dL
Original value
Displayed values are rounded. Use the original test value, rather than a rounded result, for later calculations.
What the result means
The two numbers describe the same glucose concentration in different units. A unit conversion does not change the meaning of the test. When comparing records, check the testing method, time, meals and medications.
Limits
This tool changes glucose concentration units only. Fasting, after-meal and random measurements, venous plasma tests, fingerstick meters and CGM readings can have different clinical contexts. Do not diagnose diabetes or adjust insulin or medicines from this number alone. HbA1c mmol/mol is not the same unit as glucose mmol/L.
What to check next
Check the unit and measurement context on the report, and track repeated values in one consistent unit. For a very high or low result or symptoms, follow your clinician’s individual guidance.
Questions for a visit
- Was this measured fasting, after a meal, or at a random time?
- How should I compare lab glucose, home meter readings and CGM data?
- What personal targets and follow-up or urgent-care thresholds apply to me?
Inputs are calculated in this browser and are not automatically stored or sent to the site. Printing or saving a PDF includes the values.
How to use it and examples
For example, 100 mg/dL ÷ 18.02 ≈ 5.55 mmol/L. Conversely, 5.6 mmol/L × 18.02 ≈ 100.9 mg/dL. Rounding for display means the reverse conversion may not recreate the exact original number.

Frequently asked questions
Is glucose mmol/L the same as HbA1c mmol/mol?
No. Glucose is a concentration of sugar; HbA1c is a different laboratory measure. This converter does not convert HbA1c.
Can this result determine whether I have diabetes?
No. Diagnosis considers the test type, sample and collection conditions, confirmation and symptoms. Do not treat fingerstick or CGM values as identical to diagnostic venous plasma tests.
